A recent letter to the editor in the magazine suggested that Global Traveler cover sports other than golf in GTee, our golf review column. Were they serious?  So does the reader want to see me on the diamond? Or running for a touchdown? Please, be serious!

Perhaps I should be reviewing soccer pitches around the world. I did see some interesting ones in Saudi Arabia when I was there many years ago. Or what about a cricket game in the Caribbean? I was a spectator at a game there, but I really had a hard time following the sport. I guess you have to be British?! Take a walk in Central Park during the summer and you can watch a baseball game — or even join the team for a few innings like John Wroblewski and Lou Atsaves did this spring.

Nearly 60 percent of you, the readers of Global Traveler, play golf. So, I think I will stick to the game I can play fairly well (sometimes). I’ll let Richard Newton stick to the more obscure sports from around the world in the Global Games column each month.

I am leaving the Outer Banks today. Over the past week, I played golf at The Pointe, Seascapes, Nags Head Links and Kilmarlick. Many of those courses have been reviewed by GT.
