I fly home today from Houston, ending a four-week travel frenzy that included Munich, Dusseldorf, Chicago and London. According to all news reports, as I fly east toward Philadelphia, I will be leaving the 80-plus degree weather far behind in Texas.

After a great time in Munich, I boarded a Lufthansa flight to Dusseldorf. Upon landing I was lucky enough to experience the Dusseldorf Airport VIP experience. I was met at the gate and driven to a private lounge for relaxation and privacy. I also enjoyed a tour of the airport facilities, including a great observation deck.

With limited time in Dusseldorf, I took advantage of an afternoon walking tour. Situated on the Rhine River, Dusseldorf seemed worlds different from Munich to me. Munich has a strong Bavarian feel, while Dusseldorf is a much more cosmopolitan metropolis. A wonderful meal was enjoyed overlooking the river. My limited taste of Dusseldorf left me hoping for more.

I stayed at the Breidenbacher Hof. All I have to stay is oh-la-la! After a recent renovation the hotel reopened in all its glorious splendor. Highly recommended.
