When it comes to taking time off to kick back and recharge the battery, my ideal vacation involves white sand, blue water and palm trees.  However, growing up in New England, nothing compares to the rocky shorelines, breezy dune fields, historical lighthouses and steamy clam chowder of Massachusetts.  It is that time of year when my family prepares for our annual trip to Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

My mother grew up in a small, quaint town called Osterville, right in Barnstable County. For as long as I can remember, my family and I have set aside at least one trip per year for our favorite New England summer activities. Biking, boating, fishing and driving on the beach are all typical interests for the Cape Cod traveler.  However, every year I look forward to the beaches and the food.

For some New England ambiance and traditional paper plates overflowing with seafood, Baxter’s has always been our family choice for dinner. To this day, my mom will attest that Four Seas ice cream serves the best ice cream on the planet.  With flavors from cantaloupe to butterscotch, this homemade ice cream is the best after-dinner treat. For a rugged coastline, chilly Atlantic Ocean, big waves and seal spotting, Nauset Beach is my favorite place to relax.

What keeps you coming back to your favorite vacation destination?
