Raw Foodism

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Last week, my friends and I attended a free wine- and chip-tasting party promoting a new healthy product known as Brad’s Raw Chips.   The event took place on the roof of a six-story building in the East Village.   Guests were able to taste a variety of chip flavors, coupled with fresh salsa, hummus and guacamole.  The founder of the product, Brad, was there to talk about his chips and the benefits of a raw lifestyle.

From what I learned, “going raw” is not an easy change.  The definition of raw foodism is consuming only uncooked, unprocessed organic foods.   Say goodbye to burgers and fries, say hello to raw veggie shakes and unprocessed milk!  Indeed, raw foodism is not just a diet — it’s a whole new lifestyle.

Brad’s Raw Chips actually taste good.  Most raw chips are made with one vegetable, like a sliced-up yam.  Brad makes his chips from a mixture of vegetables and seeds.  He blends them together into a paste, flattens them and dehydrates the chips to attain a tortilla chip consistency.

The whole experience was fun and very interesting.   I enjoyed talking to people who practice raw foodism.  It’s a different way of life involving a lot of commitment and sacrifice.  I like to support (and occasionally practice) healthy living.  I even went home with two bags of chips.  I later ordered a juicy medium-rare burger with extra-crispy fries.
