A Disappointing Year for a NY Sports Fan
First, the Philadelphia Phillies, and now the Philadelphia Eagles! Both teams have caused myself and my fellow NY sports fans much heartache. We can’t seem to catch a break this year, and, with many of my colleagues from the greater Philadelphia area, these memories are not quickly forgotten.
I watched the Giants v. Eagles playoff game this past Sunday at Coppersmiths Bar on 53rd and 9th with a group of friends and a bar packed full of die-hard Giants fans. By the end of the game, I know I saw some tears from some very macho men. Unfortunately, I spent the majority of the weekend as a cocky New Yorker texting back and forth with my Eagles fan colleague, Kim Krol. It was friendly banter, but, alas, I came up with the short end of the stick. The Giants made numerous errors, including failing to make two plays when they were 4th down and inches! TWICE! It was terrible to watch.
The Giants made the Eagles look good, and we’ll see which team reigns supreme when the Eagles take on the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC Championship. My only fear now:Â If the Eagles do win and head to the Super Bowl, I worry there will be a repeat of when the Phillies won the World Series, and I will be adorned with more Philadelphia team t-shirts and Eagles paraphernalia!

If you want to talk sports heartache, you have to start in Chicago. The Cubs got swept by a lesser LA team. The Bears seemingly played well, but were just average and have a questionable near future. The BHulls are horrible. The Blackhawks are the only team on the rise.
Sure, the Cubs reloaded a bit, but until the reach the World Series (100 years and counting), they will leave us wanting more.
