Happy New Year!
Thursday, January 1st, 2009Happy New Year!
I’ve never made a big fuss about ringing in the New Year. Rarely do I make a New Year’s resolution, mostly because whenever I do, I rarely keep it!
I think the last time I decided to make a big deal out of New Year’s was when I had nearly overdrawn my bank account in Montreal during a trip with my friends in high school. I realized I could have easily stayed home and avoided the mass crowd of 18-year-old Americans trying to abuse the younger drinking age in Canada. There are much better reasons to visit Montreal other than the drinking age!
Since then, I have kept New Year’s pretty low-key. In college my roommates and I would drive up to Vermont and spend a few days at my friend’s ski house. The girls and I would ring in the New Year with board games, a warm fire and champagne!
This year, one of my college roommates flew in from D.C. Our plans were to avoid Times Square at all costs and stay in Brooklyn. My sister hosted a New Year’s potluck at her apartment in Brooklyn, which ensured I didn’t overdraw my bank account this year!
