How About Some Cheese With This Whine?

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I really don’t have much to complain about in my life, but I’m going to have a whining session anyway today. Let me start out with gas prices. For years my friends in Europe have laughed at how we complain about the price of gas here when their prices are out of control, but we have good cause. Here in California, we drive ridiculous distances to go anywhere, and mostly in traffic. In fact, an unfortunate friend of mine has the displeasure of driving 37 miles each way in heavy traffic just to get to work, and even though she gets decent mileage, it still costs her $450 a month just to commute to her job. For those not initiated in Southern California life, let me remind you that there is no public transportation so other options are also out. Yes, we are frustrated.

Now, let me moan about airline travel. This morning, as you are reading this, I am on another business trip. I really don’t mind business trips, but I get so tired of late flights, lost luggage, etc. So, I won’t name names, but luckily I am on an airline that does not fly the MD80. Enough said, but now between the annoying processes of getting to the aircraft in the first place, we are saddled with a plethora of things that can still go wrong and ruin well-planned business trips. It has become almost impossible to do an overnighter as you more than likely will not arrive on time, however, I will be attempting that on this trip. Wish me luck.

Well, I could go on and on about these subjects and more, but I’ll just let it rest for now and let you ponder the state of the union while I cross my fingers that I’ll get to my destination in time for my meetings.
