Relative Calm in Chaos
Monday, October 29th, 2007On my recent trip to Los Angeles, I had the wonderful opportunity to stay at the Georgian Hotel on Ocean in Santa Monica. I have written reviews of the Georgian in the past and find it to be a wonderful alternative to many 5 star properties. Even though the Georgian is a 4 star, its location, staff and suites make it well worth it and the beds are very comfortable (heavenly like the Westin).
I had the time to relax and do some work on my laptop and was able to sit on the veranda of the Georgian for breakfast. Free wireless, views of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Pier make this a perfect setting for business travelers on a break. The staff will kindly park your car and retrieve it in no time - so, what might appear to be a leisure hotel, works perfectly, and sometimes more efficiently, than other properties. I have stayed at nearly every property in Santa Monica and jokingly refer to myself to my friends as “The King of Santa Monica” and the Georgian looks after my needs as equally as the better known properties on the Ocean.
The oddity today is that I am listening to jazz here, watching the Pacific Ocean and people watching, while a short distance away, and within eyesight, the Malibu fires are burning out of control, threatening many homeowners. But, here at the Georgian, life goes on as if nothing is happening. And this is the way life goes - there are tragedies and turmoils all over the world and if you are not in that particular situation, life seems to go on. So, chaos in relative calm.
