Beach Daze
I’ve had the privilege of lounging on some of the world’s most beautiful beaches; wide open expanses of soft white sand and gin-clear water. Negril in Jamaica, Hawks Nest on St. John, USVI, Anse de Flamands on St. Barths and Lizard Island in North Queensland, Australia to name a few.
But, as Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz, “There’s no place like home.”
As a New Englander, I consider myself lucky to live in a region where I can get to the beach, the mountains, the city or the country in a matter of hours. The beach is my preferred destination. That’s particularly true because it’s where I gather with my siblings almost every summer weekend. We pack a lunch, meet up at one of our homes, load up our beach chairs and gear and pile into one car for the short drive to our favorite beach. Then, we unload everything and sit around in a circle talking. We take the occasional dip in the ocean. But, most of all, we laugh - at each other, at our corny jokes, at childhood memories.
These summer weekends are precious to me. Every time we get together, we’re creating memories for tomorrow.
